Tha ish: my playlist

Since the passing of Michael Jackson, I have listened to an inordinate amount of his music. I’ve always loved his songs, but hearing his music on the radio and on tv over the past 2 weeks, has made me rediscover some classic tracks.

I thought that I would share with you a couple of the tracks that I listen to practically every day.

1. Can You Feel It- This is sooooo tha ish. Love this song!!! I can’t believe I almost forgot about this one. I love how elaborate and lush the orchestration is. They don’t make music like this anymore. Check out the video
here

2. Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough

3. The Way You Make Me Feel- This is up there on my list of fave MJ classics.

4. Never Can Say Goodbye

5. Sugar Daddy

6. ABC

7. Rock With You

8. The Girl Is Mine- Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney- I love it when Michael and Paul actually have a conversation in the middle of the song. Classic!

9. Pretty Young Thing

10. Human Nature

* Bonus tracks: Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’, Man in the Mirror

Saying goodbye

Last week was a hard and emotionally draining week for me. It started from 7:30 am Monday June 22 all the way up to Thursday, June 25, 2009.

When I heard that that Michael Jackson passed, I honestly felt like a family member died. Ever since I have been on this earth, Michael has been making music. I consider myself lucky to have seen his rise to fame in the 80s and personally witness his music and innovative videos. I loved Michael. He defined my youth.

I still remember coming home for lunch from school and hearing Billie Jean on the radio. I actually went back to school late because I NEEDED to hear the whole song.

It’s great to see how Michael’s music touched everyone- regardless of race, age and gender. He was an entertainer. He lived for his fans. So for that, I say thank you.

RIP Michael,

Tha ish: I’m such a cougar!

Well, the title of this entry doesn’t really need that much explanation. I’ve simply been feeling a little cougarish lately! Please don’t think of me as one of those over-sexed middle-aged women who wear inappropriately young clothing, apply tons of makeup, and exclusively date younger guys. I’m older, but I’m not OLD and I’m definitely not tacky. I like to call myself grown & sexy. Okay, now that I got that out of the way, I should tell you what inspired this post.

For the past couple of weeks I’ve been noticing a plethora of young, strapping lads. (I’m thinking it’s because I’m single and haven’t been on a date since FOREVER.) These strapping young lads are over 20 years old and definitely under 25 years old. Hence my cougarish feelings.

I’ve actually dated a younger guy in the past, so cougar-dom ain’t that new to me, but I never thought that I would go down that road again.

Until this extremely tall, athletic looking specimen approached me a couple of days ago and said “How you doin’, miss?” in a cute hip hop way. True, he was probably being polite and in no way hitting on me, but I will say that the he got me thinking about visiting cougarville again. Maybe not on a long-term basis, but I’m definitely ready for a pit stop!

Tha ish: Feeling like Carrie Bradshaw

OMG, I am soooooo excited. I just purchased my very first laptop! Yes, I have never owned a laptop. I’ve had my trusty desktop for over 8 years! I didn’t really didn’t think that I needed a laptop, nor did I think I wanted one. I was traumatized by one a few years ago, and I invariably swore them off.

I started to notice that I did in fact need laptop if I were to call myself a “serious writer.” Over the past year, I have become the laziest writer known to man. I rarely updated my blogs (yes, I have more than one) and I haven’t written a proper article in FOREVER. I also started to dread running into my office at home and putting on my old, clunky, slow computer. I then began to see the necessity of having something portable. I could write in bed, on the couch, in a cafe. I felt that it was time to enter the laptop era. (* I do understand that I’m like 20 years behind!)

I pondered what I should get. A million people told me to get a Mac, but after thinking about it for what seemed like an eternity, I decided against it. The Mac laptop/netbook was nice, but I think I hate Mac people (except for my sister. Well, when she talks about Macs I tune her out!). They are way too obsessed with Mac products, which unfortunately turned me off. That, and the fact that they are way too damn expensive.

So I settled on a cute HP model. I placed my order Thursday night, and received it first thing Monday morning!

Like a child on Christmas, I tore open the box and unearthed my new laptop. It was so shiny and new. I instantly fell in love. I can’t wait to write and pretend I’m Carrie Bradshaw working on her Sex & the City column. I can feel my literary juices flowing (okay, that sounds nasty!).

Anyways, I need some alone time with my sexy lil laptop.

Goodnight!

Tha ish: songs I’m feelin’

It’s been quite some time since I’ve updated my blog. My bad! In my defense, there really wasn’t a whole lot out there that my mojo going. Perhaps I’m a little hard to please!

There were a few songs that struck me and put a smile on my face. Check out my short list of fab new-ish songs.

Knock You Down

Keri Hilson feat. Kanye and Ne-Yo

I love love this song! Miss Keri, Baby is giving all the R&B girls a run for their money! She is seriously hitting us off with hit after hit. Turnin’ You On is still the ish, and her latest single is getting huge play. You go, girl!

Diva

Beyonce

I have soooo much attitude when I listen to this song! This is so the song that gets you hyped before you go out for a night on the town! Thanks, Bey!

My Life Would Suck Without You

Kelly Clarkson

I’m such a closet Kelly Clarkson fan! I can’t help it; her music totally helps me with my numerous relationship issues. Yes, I can identify with her angst! So it's no surprise that I love this song.

Anyways, take a listen to these songs and let me know what you think.

Tha ish: Sunny

I finally watched the season finale of Project Runway Canada. And as I predicted, Sunny won.

I am happy for him, but I had my fingers and my toes crossed so that Jessica Biffi would take the prize as Project Runway winner.

Her collection was cute, feminine and very fashionable. The opening jacket was outstanding, and I would love, love love to have that in my wardrobe.

But like I said, I am happy that Sunny won. He worked hard all season long, his skill and eye for detail is undeniable, which made the judges adore him. Sunny was so the teacher’s pet but it paid off! Congrats, Sunny!

Tha ish: Blame it- Jamie Foxx feat T-Pain

I ain’t gonna lie, I like this ode to alcohol. Okay, it’s not strictly about alcoholic consumption; it’s more about those carefree nights which may involve a little alcohol. Don’t even lie, you know we’ve all had our fair share of those hazy, liquor-soaked nights!

I don’t like this song only it speaks about adult libations—it’s actually a pretty catchy song. The only drawback to this song is the questionable video. Why Jamie Foxx thought it was a good idea to jam back A-list celebs (and a handful D-listers) in his 5 minute music video is beyond me.

Honestly, why are Ron Howard and Jake Gyllenhaal in an r&b video? Watching the juxtaposition of gyrating hip hop vixens, serious actors and thugged out hip hop stars is hilarious to me! There really is no correlation between the song and the video, but I guess there doesn’t have to be.

Check out the video here.
